Inception
The Ministry of Health and Welfare, then Department of Health, promoted the establishment of the Joint Commission of Taiwan (former Taiwan Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation, TJCHA) to provide services for the healthcare organizations in Taiwan in enhancing their quality of healthcare services.

  • In August 1998, the Executive Yuan granted the then, Department of Health the funds to establish the Taiwan Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation "
  • In January 1999, then Department of Health and the Executive Yuan authorized the foundation of the Taiwan Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation.
  • On March 8, 1999, the Taiwan Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation was registered at Taipei District Court.
  • On April 12, 1999, the Grand Opening Ceremony of the Taiwan Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation was held.
  • 2014, Taiwan Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation was renamed to Joint Commission of Taiwan

Founding Organizations
The Joint Commission of Taiwan is the first organization in the nation, founded by both governmental and non-governmental healthcare organizations. The founding organizations include:

  • Ministry of Health and Welfare, R.O.C
  • Taiwan Medical Association
  • Taiwan Hospital Association
  • Taiwan Non-Governmental Hospitals and Clinics Association
