Information Technology related Patient Safety (ITPS)

Health information technology has seen rapid development in recent years. The information systems used by various healthcare organizations are diverse and extensive. Therefore, numerous health information technology related patient safety incidents have occurred recently, which include data leakage, identification errors, inappropriate system prompts, etc. All of these issues could potentially harm the patient, which extends the scope of patient safety measures in the healthcare industry. Although healthcare organizations are willing to apply the latest and best health information systems to their care services, many of them are not aware of the patient safety risks that come along with its implementation.

Thus, the JCT launched the Information Technology related Patient Safety (ITPS) platform in 2021. With the ITPS platform, healthcare organizations can obtain information on the following patient safety measures:

Reduce the degree of patient safety incident harm caused by health information technology.

  1. Prevent health information system errors from jeopardizing patient safety.
  2. Assist the hospital to understand the potential threats and risks to patient safety from health information system.
  3. Currently over 20 hospitals are joined to report on their health information technology related patient safety incident.
